how much does a switchboard upgrade cost?
It depends on your existing board, the number of circuits, and whether any undersized cabling needs replacing. Chad quotes every job upfront after assessing the board – no site visit fee, and in most cases he can give you a ballpark on the phone first.
how do i know if i need to upgrade my switchboard?
There are a number of reasons why you might need to upgrade your switch – for example, experiencing frequent power faults or trips, undersized cabling and outdated protection. A switch that trips repeatedly is telling you the board is overloaded or failing to protect against a real fault.
Old fuse boards (ceramic or otherwise) were designed for the electrical loads of decades ago. Modern appliances – dishwashers, EV chargers, air conditioning units, induction cooktops – need to be supported by a modern switchboard.
will i need to upgrade if i'm adding solar or an EV charger?
Often yes. Older fuse boards can’t support the dedicated circuits that solar inverters and EV chargers require. Chad checks this as part of every EV charger quote. If a switchboard upgrade is needed, you’ll know the full cost upfront before you book. Many customers combine both jobs to save on labour.
how long does it? will my power be off all day?
A standard switchboard upgrade typically takes 3-6 hours. We will give you an idea of the timeline before we start so you can plan around it. Most jobs are done in a single visit.
